Environmental community support along the Petteril

On Saturday members of the men’s diaspora group worked with Eden Rivers Trust to tackle the growing problem of Himalayan balsam growing along the river Petteril. Himalayan Balsam is a non-native invasive species which can produce up to 800 seeds per plant, therefore is capable of spreading and overgrowing other plants very quickly.

The Eden Rivers Trust works with volunteers to reduce the balsam around the rivers in Carlisle, and on Saturday they were joined by people seeking asylum. They were keen to help protect their local environment and ensure that the area was well maintained.
