Food - International cuisine

Food is always a popular and connecting component to society in general.

With over 80 diasporas living and working in Cumbria, it is an opportunity for them to share their cuisine and family favourites.

The purpose of the project is to break down barriers between the local police force and the diaspora community living in the Carlisle area. By forming a rapport and trust between these groups, eradicating fear and encouraging them to communicate independently.

This is a 12 week project consisting of the following activities, specifically aimed at diaspora communities including People Seeking Asylum and Refugees in the Carlisle area:
1 Football matches with and food and refreshments for the participants
2 A carrom board competition
3 Sit down, freshly prepared, culturally diverse meals for all participants during the period of the project, giving an opportunity to “break bread” together
4 The use of community spaces suitable for cooking and eating such as the Fire Station East community rooms and kitchen
