Carromboard is very popular in the Indian subcontinent, and is known by various names in different languages. In South Asia, many clubs and cafés hold regular tournaments. Carromboard is commonly played by families, including children, and at social functions.

Carromboard originated in the 18th century, invented by the Indian maharajas. It is a multi generational game as well as a competitive league game. After the First World War, the game of Carromboard gained more popularity.
